Baby
Lambskin Rugs
 |
More than a
million babies around the world in the last twenty years can thank
a young New Zealand mother for her idea. She had seen long-term
hospital patients lying on sheepskin bed pads and felt that sheepskin
might help make her own child more comfortable in hospital. This
was the beginning of the Baby Lambskin programme.
Of course,
this is not an entirely new concept. Mothers have been using wool
to keep their babies warm and dry for centuries. The baby lambskin
programme is just the modern adaptation of this tradition.

Sleeping
Position
It is advised by health care professionals that babies under one year
of age should be placed to sleep on their backs. This is advised for all
types of bedding, including lambskin rugs. The lambskin provides great
warmth and security to babies as well as a rich tactile experience. Mothers
can also place soft muslin under their babies heads which can be frequently
changed and also provides protection in case the baby rolls over during
sleep.
Thermal
Control
Lambskin rugs can be used all year round. Wool is a natural insulator
and will trap warm air keeping baby warm and cozy in cold weather. In
warm weather the wool absorbs moisture and releases it into their air
ensuring that baby stays dry and comfortable.
Care
of your Lambskin Rug
The lambskin rugs
are fully washable on a low temperature using a non-biological washing
powder, designed for use on wools. A teaspoon of glycerine can be added
to the rinsing water to help keep the leather supple and conditioned.
Do not tumble dry or dry in a direct heat i.e. fireplace or radiator.
Drip dry outdoors or on a clothes rack. Stains can be sponged off the
rug and dried used a hairdryer on low heat.
